Southeast Alaska Salmon HIP Habitat Model
Summer 2016 was a low water year for the HNFP project area on Chichagof Island in Southeast Alaska. As a consequence of low river flows, the even-year pink salmon run encountered reduced access to spawning habitat during their August upstream migration. The high density of bear on Chichagof Island was an additional obstacle to spawning success for these fish. The Romey FAS field crew collected Chum and Pink salmon redd data that will be used to strengthen habitat intrinsic potential (HIP) models for these two species of salmon.
